Operating Instructions
Starting Vehicle
  • Put your key into the "ON" position. The WAIT light should come on; the device is preparing to receive a test. Turn the key to the "OFF" position.
  • Make sure that you're A/C, heater, and other electrical items are turned off.
  • Wait for the BLOW light to come on.
  • Once you have completed your test, you will see another indicator light:
PASS - You may start your vehicle when you see the RUN light.
WARN - You may start your vehicle when you see the RUN light.
FAIL - If you have not been drinking, test again.
  • You will see the WAIT light followed by the BLOW light asking for a test. Rinse your mouth with water. (Swish and swallow). Take the unit away from your mouth to take a deep breath.
  • If you ABORT, take the unit away from your mouth to draw your next deep breath, as the unit returns to BLOW very quickly. Maintain a steady air flow, and remember to hum. (Say the word "DO")
  • Do not put the mouthpiece all the way into your mouth, just up to it. Do not hold on to the mouthpiece either. If you see drops of water forming get a dry mouthpiece.
Rolling Re-test
  • As you are driving, you will hear the test signal and see the BLOW light asking for a test. You must give this test within 4 minutes of being asked, or a violation will be recorded. Your siren may sound and stay on and will get louder if not corrected.
  • The only way to stop your siren once it has sounded is to pull over, turn the engine off, give and pass the initial start-up test again.
Problems
If you fail a test and have not been drinking, rinse your mouth with water and swallow it, and get some fresh air.
If your device shows the RUN light and will not start, you have a problem with your vehicle. Consult your mechanic. You may have ignition, starter or alternator problems. If all lights on the device come on, you have a low battery. When consulting with a mechanic, make sure that he/she calls the service center to discuss ways in which repairs will affect the IID. We are not responsible for any fees charged by your mechanic.
Car Battery
If you do not plan on driving the vehicle, either disconnect your battery, remove the head, or start the vehicle every few days.
The IID does not bleed any more energy from your vehicle's battery than the clock on your dashboard. If you have persistent battery problems, buy a new battery. If your battery is not functioning properly, you may do the following without damaging your device:
  • Jump-start the vehicle: This will not affect the device. You must, however, pass a test before starting the vehicle.
  • Charge the battery: Pull the positive cable off and charge your battery.
24 HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICES
If you have an emergency (your car is stranded and your device will not accept a test), you may call 800- and leave a message with the answering service containing your name, telephone number and the nature of the problem. Your call/message will be forwarded to the appropriate person if the answering service cannot help you. Your call will be returned as soon as possible. All non-emergency problems, of any nature, will not be attended to.
Do NOT leave a pager or pay phone number for return calls
Calls regarding appointments, early recalls (service light on steady, lockout light flashing), billing, battery problems, or general questions must be made on the next business day. Messages left regarding administrative matters will not receive any response from the representative on call.
